PENSACOLA, Fla. — A conservative group is suing a Panhandle school district above its limits on prayer.
Santa Rosa educational institutions reached an agreement last year using the ACLU after it sued through the identical concern. The new policy approved by a federal judge prevents the practice or promotion of religious activities involving students.
The Orlando-based Liberty Counsel sued in federal court Tuesday, alleging the agreement violates the 1st Amendment rights of two dozen college students, staff members and others.
The district lamented in a statement that it is caught in between two advocacy groups attempting to impose an agenda.
The Legislature final week passed a bill inspired by the fight that bans educational facilities from infringing on Initial Amendment rights unless teachers, staff or college students sign a waiver.
