Although it was a tight race, with all 43 precincts reporting at press time, incumbents Don Hayes, Janice Cavenaugh and Ed Higgins, plus political newcomer Derrick Hickey, won the GOP main to the Panel of Education. The incumbents and Hickey had sufficient votes that it appeared there can be no require for the run-off election.
Former college aboard member Steve Bilzi failed to gain a spot on the November ballot.

One of the most pressing concern for a new board in the fall will likely be spending budget cuts and what the board will likely be asking county educational institutions to accomplish without having.
With a feasible $7 million the existing panel may need to carve away, the next board will need to deal using the effects of people cuts.
All of the candidates valued preserving teaching jobs first when creating spending budget cuts.
But a fresh board will also have a brand new superintendent to help guide the county’s educational facilities, since Superintendent Al Lerch is retiring June 30. The deadline for candidates to apply with the superintendent’s post is Thursday.
Higgins, the board’s current chairman, stated he is prepared to take on another board term – despite the public rancor during the neighborhood schools redistricting fight this year.
